Title: Patrick: The Blow-In Saint
Designer: Stephen McNally MIDI
Company: RTÉ

COMMERCIAL OBJECTIVE
Patrick: the Blow-In Saint was a lighthearted panel discussion show hosted by Mary Kennedy, focusing on the life of Saint Patrick and using it as a medium to discuss immigration in Ireland.
DESIGN OBJECTIVE
The title tells the story of St Patrick’s life, underscoring the five stages discussed in the programme. Each stage works as a stand-alone vignette, unified by the common style and colour palette.
DESIGN THEME
The illustration style keeps the tone light; the drawings incorporate pastiches of different international art, such as Hokusai’s Great Wave, to reflect the multicultural programme. The animation was influenced by stopmotion animations of Michel Ocelot and Jamie Caliri.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Running before RTÉ’s coverage of the Saint Patrick’s Day Parade, the animation had to appeal to children and young people, while also being resonant for older viewers.
JURY COMMENTS
